The simple answer is YES!
Here are some facts from usability expert Jakob Nielsen which clearly outlines several areas.
- Providing emails are not unsolicited and they are targeted, an email newsletter is more likely to be read than a web page!
- 19% of newsletters are fully read.
- The dominant behaviour is to scan the newsletter, so keep it to the point!
- 35% of the time, participants only skimmed a small part of the newsletter.
- People skip the introduction blah blah text!
The difference between todays email newsletters is not only how they are read, but also how they are formatted. For example Outlook uses the Microsoft Word rendering engine to display HTML emails.
Keep it simple and to the point
Why use RSS?
On Jakob’s study, 82% of users had no idea what this term meant. Sometimes people are using RSS in Yahoo or Google without even realising it! RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication, however it appears most people do not find it simple!
